
New York – Feb. 4, 2021 – The Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations, H.E Ambassador Omar Hilale, has been re-elected by acclamation as President of the Central African Republic Configuration of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC), during the body’s first formal meeting of the year.
The United Nations Peacebuilding Commission is a United Nations intergovernmental advisory body of both the General Assembly and the Security Council that supports peace efforts in conflict affected. In 2005 at the World Summit, the UN member states agreed on establishing the UNPBC with the purpose of joining forces for peacebuilding across the world. … As a result of negotiations, a Leader’s Communique and a Plan of Action for peacebuilding operations will be adopted.
a subsidiary body of the Security Council and of the General Assembly, has the mandate to mobilize resources for the financing of the various peacebuilding plans of the country, to mobilize the international community to keep the Central African issue at the heart of its concerns and to develop recommendations and advice, particularly to the Security Council
The re-election of Ambassador Hilale is an example of the confidence of the international community and the United Nations in the key role played by Morocco in the building, maintaining and sustainability of peace. Indeed, the Kingdom remains to this day the only Arab and African country to chair a Country Configuration.

About H.E Omar Hilale
Omar Hilale was born 1 January 1951 in Agadir is a Moroccan career diplomat. He has been Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York since he was appointed in this position in April 2014. He used to be the permanent representative of Morocco to the UN in Geneva.
H.E Hilale is a graduate of the Mohammed V University in Rabat where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1974. He served in many diplomatic posts such as ambassador to Singapore, New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia, between 1996 and 2001. He was the General Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation between 2005 and 2008. In November 2008 he became Representative of Morocco to the UN in Geneva. On 8 April 2020, he was appointed co-facilitator for the process of strengthening the United Nations human rights treaty bodies.
